New Christian
What has happened to me now that I’m saved?  You have received Christ.  Jh.1:12; Rev. 3:20.  You have become a new person.  II Cor. 5:17.  You have been set free from the power of sin.  Rom. 6:4-13.  You have entered the family of God.  II Cor. 6:17-18.  You have been forgiven of all your sins.  I Jh. 1:9.

What do I need to do right now, since I’m saved? Don’t be ashamed to own up to it around others. Matt. 5:16; Lk. 9:26. Attend church services every Sunday and during the week.  Heb. 1:25; Lk 4:16.

Laying aside wrong and adding on right. Eph. 4:22-32; Col 3:8-10; Heb. 12 1-2.  Establish a daily quiet time which you will read and study God’s word with prayer.

How to handle doubt when it comes:  Know that Satan brings doubt and know that the power of God in us is greater than Satan.  I Jh. 4:4.  Know what the Bible says about your salvation.  Eph. 2:8-9; Rom 10:9-10, 13; Acts 16:30-31.

Dealing with sin now that I’m saved. I Jn 1:9.  Because the Christian has sinned, does not stop the saved relationship.  A son or daughter does not stop being in the family because they have done wrong.  We are sons and daughters of God.

Old friends and the world.  I Jh. 2:15-17; II Cor. 6; 14-18; James 4:4; Matt. 6:24.

Dealing with temptation.  Know where it comes from.  It comes from self (the old nature) and Satan.  James 1:14; Matt. 4:1-3.  Know that the temptation is not the sin. But conceiving it and yielding to it, is. James 1:15.  We overcome temptation by:  Faith – 1 Jh 5:4; God’s Word – Matt. 4:1-11; Rom. 10:17; Yielding to God and resisting Satan – James 4:7; Taking the way of escape – I Cor. 10:13; and Prayer – Phil. 4:6

The importance of God’s Word.  Ps. 119:9, 11, 105.  All of Ps. 119 should be read often. Jh 1:1; II Tim. 2:15; II Tim. 3:14-17; Heb. 4:12.

Faith and its importance:  Heb. 11:1, 6; II Cor. 5:7; James 1:5-8.  Simply Put. Faith is taking God at His Word. It is standing on what God has said and knowing it will come to pass.

The importance of prayer:  Lk. 18:1; I Thess. 5:17; I Tim. 2:8; Phil. 4:6.  We should pray without display – Matt. 6:5, 7; we should pray in line with God’s will – I Jh 5:14-15.  Pray in faith. James 1:6-7; Mk 11:22-24.  Fasting is sometimes involved in prayer.  Matt. 17:14-21; Matt. 6:16-18.

Understanding the Holy Spirit.  He is a person and not a thing – Jh. 14:16-17, 26; Jh. 16:13.  He dwells in the Christian but not in the sinner – Jh. 14:17; I Cor. 2:14.  He

teaches us. Jh. 14:26.  He gives the Christian spiritual gifts or spiritual abilities.  I Cor. 12:1-7.
